This day was a very exciting day (and one of the BIG reasons for my journey to NC). Today I celebrated my stepfather's graduation from undergrad! Being not only the first to graduate from his immediate family, he graduated CUM LAUDE with a BS in Business Administration from Fayetteville State University.
As he's walking out in the morning, heading toward the stadium!
Lining up and ready to approach the stage!
As you can tell I am TRULY proud of him! Not only did he do EXTREMELY well in school, he went back to finish what he started over 20 years ago. My stepdad (aka Mr. P) was given the opportunity to attend school 3 years ago and jumped at the opportunity. He worked full-time, went to school full time and continued to be a good husband and father! (PHEW...that was alot just writing it!)
I cant even help but smile at him!
The proud daughters: Me and Alexis (she'll be graduating in a few weeks from high school)
A proud wife: My mom is soo proud! She will be graduating next (most likely graduating summa cum laud this December)
This was the same man that always encouraged me while I was in school! I remember those days I would call my parents frustrated about my college work. My stepfather would tell me to 'keep moving forward...DONT stop'. Then he would tell me how he wished he had finished school...but sometimes life intervenes. (No truer words!) So you know I had to be here to celebrate one of my biggest supporters :-)
So the day was spent at the graduation ceremony, prepping for the graduation party and actually having the graduation party!
Setting up the food station on the outside area!
We had souvenir water bottles for the guest! "Congratulations!"
Everyone signed his memory frame! :-)
So today's entry, short but sweet, is in honor of my parents! This year and next year I will witness my mother, father and stepfather graduate from undergrad with various degrees! Although I acknowledge my stepfather's graduation today, my parents represent the persistent & endless pursuit of knowledge. My parents, in their late 40s and early 50s, went back to school to better themselves. Regardless of their age, they went back and did (and continue to do) extremely well. I'm proud of them and proud to have that 'drive' in my bloodline!
So......
Day 2 Lesson: You CAN teach an old dog new tricks.....so there is NO excuse for the young dogs!
Until tomorrow,
:-) Morgan L.
