Day 3: Mommy Dearest....in the good way! (old movie reference..LOL)

Good evening all, (for Sunday May 8, 2011)

Today's blog is in honor of....MOTHERS!!
That's my mom and stepdad. Not exactly sure where Mr. P is looking! LOL
But most importantly my mom, Marsha Annette Lucas.

Today I had the greatest privilege to spend mother's day with my mom! Now you are probably wondering, where is the 'first' in all of this! Well...this will be the first time I celebrate with my mom ON Mother's Day! In all 24 years (minus the 2-3 years I was a baby), I have NEVER spent Mother's Day with my mom....so today was quite a thrill!

Add a card and a whole LOT of favorite candies! All for Mom! (I think my sister and I did very well considering we BOTH were on budgets)

When we BOTH were younger!
I had to be at least 8 or 9 in this pic! We both look SOO young!

Now I'm not going to ever count out the many great women in my life (the many, many Mothers I do have aka my grandmother 'Daisy Bell', my Aunt Janice, and several other special women).....however today, I'm going to highlight the special time I had with my mommy!

My mother, stepfather and I (joined by my parents' long-time friends) had brunch at Fort Bragg's Captain's Club on the military base in Fayetteville.

This was definitely a first for me....even though I've been on this base many times. This Mother's Day Brunch is an annual tradition for the base and was even highlighted in the news (we missed the news crew.....we got there much earlier then the huge crowd). I think its a great event that pays tribute to military moms (both active and affiliated). They even acknowledged those mothers whose husbands are currently over seas!  Wonderful to see so much love and tribute.

The food was fantastic (and I dont mean this lightly!)  Everything was good....but the waffles and chicken were SOO good, they deserve their own shout out (Shout Out to the Waffles and Chicken....You were SOOO on the money today!)

After a great meal.....you know what happened next. ...(LOL.)

NAW.....we fought it off! We actually headed out to take Mother's Day gifts to various family members.
3 generations: My grandmother, my mother and me (3 years ago)
Our day ended with our house being invaded by twin 7-year olds (my mother's godchildren) who insisted on coloring, basketball and pizza. The day came to a close with pizza, watching the semi-finals and a HILARIOUS few rounds of Just Dance II on the Wii. Later, my mom, sister and I began to reminisce over old photographs. It amazes me how the years have flown by and makes me want to cherish every little moment even more!

Although today was a relaxing day full of 'calm' fun (because we were STILL recovering from the days before!) it was a wonderful experience for me! As I've gotten older the relationship between my mother and I has grown stronger. Unlike many mothers and daughters, we didnt have many opportunities for bonding when I was younger. However we have made it our ultimate goal to make up for lost time :-) We've had our bumps and bruises, but its allowed our skin to grow tougher and our hearts to distinguish whats truly important at the end of the day! I thank you mommy for all that you are and all that you continue to be.

Day 3 Lesson: Love your Mommy! (enough said..) In addition, cherish every single moment of life!

Goodbye NC! Journeying back to SC tomorrow,

:-) Morgan L.
