(NOTE: Had some internet difficulty...so my 1st two postings are a little late. Hope you enjoy!)
Good evening everyone! (for Friday May 6, 2011)
Day 1 of my 'birth-month' consisted of learning heritage, cherishing (and letting go of) the past and embracing the future. So here goes....
My 1st stop today was the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
You may not know, but my mother and father were apart of the airborne support division of the military. They were responsible for transporting the troops to their assigned destinations and assuring their safety prior to their air jumps. It wasn't until later that my father joined the airborne troopers (where he actually jumped out of the plane).
This guy (not a real person) SCARED me! Its at the entrance of the museum.
The different symbols represent the different airborne units within the army.
So visiting this museum was a thrilling experience because I saw the history behind the airborne division, the training behind it all, etc.
The 555th airborne troop, the 1st BLACK airborne troopers!
Although the entire experience was very memorable, the thing that I remembered the most was the displayed 'Remembrance Table' placed at the front entrance of the museum. This table consisted of a white tablecloth, purple napkin, single rose, lemon, salt, glass, and bible (each item symbolizing something important).
Small Table- the frailty of one Patriot
White Tablecloth- purity of their intentions to respond to their Countries Call to Arms
Purple Napkin- the path of honor they traveled in pursuit of their goal
The Single Rose- blood they shed in sacrifice to ensure Freedom for the U.S.
Lemon- bitter fate
Salt- countless fallen tears of family and friend
Glass- (turned downward) those fallen soldiers cannot toast with us at this time
Bible- strengths gained through faith to sustain those lost
As I looked at this table, I couldnt help but squeeze my mom's hand a little harder. It reminded me of the sacrifice the military give every single day. It is soo easy to get caught up in the everyday 'humdrum' and forget the need to be humble and grateful. Although my parents are here with me today, the table could have easily represented them. So my hat goes off (and stays off) to the Armed Forces....past, present and future. We are indebted to you!
This was one of the divisions my parents were in. (back in the day!) Thanks Mom and Dad!
Next stop.....does this place look familiar?
Let's just say.... after over 8 years of being a faithful customer of Alltel (yeah, yeah....I said it correctly), I finally made the switch....
TO VERIZION!!!!
Out with the OLD
Notice the year-old cracks! It took me FOREVER to text someone.
and In with the NEW
:-) Already have the email up and running. I am a 24/7 email checker!
Yes, Yes....you see it correctly! Not only did I embrace Change....I did it in the BIGGEST way. (If you know anything about me, I am not the quickest to convert to modern changes).
Thanks to an early birthday gift from my mother and stepfather, I have an iPhone to match my baby Mac! My next biggest task....coming up with a name for my phone.
So you think my day couldnt get any better RIGHT?!?! Well it did!
I had misplaced one of my favorite rings, an elephant silver ring, that was a birthday gift over 2 years ago. I cherished this ring and somehow couldnt find it for several months. I reached in my purse today to pay for my burger...and GUESS WHAT I FOUND? MY RING!

This was a birthday gift given over 2 years ago by my mom. The delta in me was THRILLED
Although the rest of my day was spent hanging with my family and prepping for my stepfather's graduation party, I truly embraced and took in soo much today.
Day 1 Lesson: We must always cherish the history and past; for the lessons they teach, the sacrifices given, and the future opportunity to accomplish more. This same history also prepares us for the greater things to come.
Until tomorrow,
:-) Morgan L.
