Good evening (for Tuesday May 10, 2011)
Convo 1:
Anytime I’m home I always have ‘heart to heart’ conversations with my grandmother. (Whenever you are blessed to be around ‘wisdom’, you cant help but want to soak it up) Before leaving for Georgia, we sat down in our special place and chatted. It amazes me how my grandmother can always detect something is bothering me; either by looking or hearing me. This time was no different. After having a disagreeing conversation with my father, I must admit I wasnt in the best mood. (Please Note: I love my father, dont get me wrong! But sometimes he can work a nerve. I guess my parents are no different from any other) I'm still not sure how much detail my granny knew, (and wouldnt be surprised what all she knew) but she was able to provide some insight that has left its mark.
"Sometimes you have to humble yourself to a situation. You cant always have the upper hand or the last word. And even if the other person is wrong, continuing to fight the situation may not always resolve the situation. Best thing to do is leave it to God. Stop trying to clean up the mess yourself....but give to God and leave it there"
Good advice, isn't it?!?! (added some grits, sausage and onions!)
Convo 2:
After a long day of traveling back to Georgia, unpacking my car, and attending a meeting...I was very, very exhausted. Decided to have a late night 'new adventure': I tried a new pizza restaurant!
I decided to try Bella's Pizza....which I've seen several commercials for.
While waiting on my order, I chatted with the employees. We were mostly engaged in the playoff Hawks-Bulls game going on and made our play-off predictions. One of the employees, who was a native of Morocco, joked about how he never really understood basketball....even though he had lived in the US for over 12 years. He preferred to 'go with the winner....and never chose a team. He didnt want to offend anyone by having a favorite team' LOL. The conversation went from basketball to his US experience. He stated how he loved his native country, however he felt the US provided more opportunity to dream and succeed. After visiting his family for a few weeks, he was ready to come back to the US. As I continued to engage in the convo, I realized that this employee had a appreciation for this country that is often lost and forgotten. Is it because we have become too complacent or are we just spoiled? It definitely made me wonder a bit!
The night ended with a good slice of pizza and a slice of insight!
Day 5 Lesson: Insight and good advice can come from any place: a familiar face, a stranger or a new experience. Be open to it and don't shy away from the opportunity.
Until tomorrow,
:-) Morgan L.
